Diablos and Red Sox

Yesterday Rand was suppose to have a ball practice but it got cancelled and instead we were invited to the Diablos stadium for the boys to meet the players and get their picture taken. One of Rand's teammates dad is the general manager of the Diablos and he generously provided a box for us as well as comped all food. It was also the opening game. I told Rand earlier in the morning what we were going to be doing and he told me he did not want to go. He told me he didn't want to get his picture taken either. I told him we probably would go and that if he didn't want to get his picture taken he didn't have to. After school as he was getting dressed in his ball clothes he was so afraid/upset that he had tears running down his face. I reassured him that he didn't have to go meet the players or get his picture taken but we would just go and watch the game. We arrived at the ball field and were led to our box and then the coach ushered out all the boys. Rand of course stayed back and when the coach told Rand to come I told him he didn't want to go, but the coach picked him up-like a sack of potatoes-and took him out. --Now, Rand is the type of kid that even though he may want to do something and he knows it will probably be fun, but the fact that he doesn't know how it's going to turn out scares him and then he doesn't want to do it. Like playing baseball for instance. For several months Rand kept telling me he wanted to play ball and that baseball was his favorite sport. Then when it came time to sign him up he said he didn't want to, but now that he is playing he is loving it and having a great time, and to be a little boastful is the best one on the team (and he knows it too).

All the boys were given a ball and each of the Diablo players signed it.

Now this picture really captures the true form of how much fun Rand is really having, and when I asked him later if he had fun and was glad he came he looked at me with a sheepish grin and said yes.

As each of the Diablo starters were announced, they also announced which player from the Red Sox team also played that position and they both ran out onto the field together.

Here we are in our box seat. Elle had so much fun looking cute as ever and the boys had a blast and loved every minute of it, especially the food-which Kade ate a hamburger, a hotdog, a chicken strip basket with fries, a few nachos, a handful of popcorn and to down that all 2 huge sprites. To top off the night Rand even caught a fly ball. We had a great night and it was such a treat for all of us and especially Rand.
